Me!!

That's me in the backseat of a car (boo not driving) on the road trip to Laredo from San Antone... iPhone camera in hand, Canon on the lap. All day everyday. Oh yeah.

"Garlic scapes"

I placed garlic scapes in quotes because I didn't know that was the name of them before I got them. These I did not grow; I got them at the farmers market on the Capitol lawn in Lansing, just down the street from my office. It was a glorious day actually.

This is a Hipstamatic print, with the contrast bumped up in CameraBag.

Peppers

... So... this is a picture of some peppers on a surface that I cannot reveal because that would be like giving away the secret... CameraBag 2 filter called Silver.

More of Tomato shoot

The past two posts feature the Most Amazing Tomato - the first of my Mi garden tomatoes. I loved it. I love it. It ultimately had to be cut and uSed, but some of it is still in the fridge. Luckily I photographed the heck out of it for several days.

Tomato

For some reason I feel very foolish writing words to go with the photographs. Perhaps that is why I do not have a writing blog!! Rest assured that there is a handwritten journal to accompany the process of completing the project, and that some parts of it will eventually go into the Artist's Statement... despite the fact that half the time I find artists' statements to be extremely annoying.

I love almost everything about this photograph except for a few details of composition due it to its having been an improvisational shot. I might need to try shooting it again to get rid of said details, but then it may feel less authentic.

Probably the most interesting thing with this self-portrait project is when I shift between iPhone and shooting with my DSLR. With the iPhone, you get greater intimacy and closer framing as well as the ability to see the photograph before shooting - the inability of which with the regular camera is part of what makes self-portraits difficult. As I have remarked many times (though admittedly probably mostly in my head) I really enjoy the immediacy and greater casualness you can get from the iPhone in all kinds of circumstances.

And you gotta love the distortion!!
